Local Charities

St. Anne's is involved in a number of local charities, the details of which are shown below.

The House of St Barnabas in Soho has been helping homeless people change their lives for over 160 years. Always at the forefront of meeting homeless people's needs, the House is in the process of changing from a residential hostel for homeless women to a state-of-the-art centre offering essential life skills, training, personal development and career paths for London's homeless people and those in crisis.

The Soho Caring Agencies Forum was set up in 2001 by the Reverend Clare Herbert (former Rector of St Anne’s Church) and Chris Best, Chief Executive of Soho Housing Association. The Forum is a network of community and statutory groups and bring together representatives from the different agencies working in Soho.

The Chinese Community Centre, 44 Gerrard Street, W1. As with other community centres the programme of work based here is wide - including youth groups, a women’s and elders’ group, and various cultural activities. As well as providing services such as these, the community associations that run centres such as this have worked to support and develop community groups. In this sense they are umbrella organizations. They have also provided a forum for the discussion of local issues and made representations into local political processes (see Twelvetrees 1976).
